Abstract

Introduction: Stroke is a non-communicable disease and the third leading cause of disability. One of the impacts that occurs in stroke patients is experiencing weakness on one side of the body. Some strokes are fatal, the longer the time after the stroke, the lower the risk of death from stroke. Fatigue in patients with stroke is usually associated with psychological disorders and brain damage (cortical disorders). Objective: To determine the relationship between muscle strength and duration of stroke with the level of fatigue in post-stroke patients at Sultan Imanuddin Hospital.

Research Method: Type of descriptive correlation research with Cross-Sectional design, purposive sampling technique with a population of 70 respondents, and a sample of 40 respondents.

Results: The results of this study on poor muscle strength with a total of 36 respondents (90.0%), duration of suffering with chronic assessment with a total of 26 respondents (65.0%), and fatigue almost all respondents experienced fatigue with a total of 36 respondents (90.0%). The results of the correlation test with the chi-square test obtained a p value of 0.000 where the p value <0.05 which means there is a relationship between muscle strength and fatigue in stroke patients, and the results of the second test for the duration of suffering and fatigue obtained a p value of 0.648 where the p value> 0.05 which means there is no relationship between the duration of suffering and fatigue in stroke patients.

Conclusion: That muscle strength plays an important role in determining the level of fatigue in stroke patients. the better the muscle strength of stroke patients, the less likely they are to experience fatigue. A person's fatigue cannot be measured by the duration of suffering, the longer a person suffers from a stroke, the less likely it is to experience fatigue.
